Australia is ranked 36th in the world in terms of
numbers of organic farmers with over 2100 registered organic farming
operations.

available farming area and this does not include farming area undergoing
organic conversion.

Overseas organic industry
The Australian market is set to follow overseas trend - with
organic produce becoming an every day alternative to processed foods.
Below are some worldwide statistics showing the growth of
the industry.
- Sales
of US organic food and non-food items grew by approx 20% in 2003 to reach
$10.8 billion. Organic food sales now represent approx 2% of organic food
sales in the US.
